Question What recall???

I have 1997 f150 v6 4.2, about 9 months
ago i had problems with my coolant leaking
and temperature gage on the hot side. I took
my truck to ford and cost me $900 on repairs
and about amonth ago my heater wasn't getting hot and chick the coolant again
and was almost empty and water leaking. i
tried calling my local dealer and asking them
about a recall and they said they don't have
one. Where can i get this recall info or
should i just go back to ford and tell them?
thanks a lot

there have been a lot of posts on this recall,,the timing cover gasket seems to be the culprit...the ford dealer should have the recall info... i think the letter i got even stated that they would pay for the repair if you had already got it fixed...try searching under the engines topic and i am pretty sure it's there

thanks so much for the reply, I called
ford today and asked them about the recall
and told me it was only posted last month
and they were also telling me about the pcv
system recall (98RO4) I was wondering if
it is the same thing as the coolant leakage
I wasn't able to talked to a tech but this
lady told me about this recall and nothing more. I lefted my number to talk to a tech but never called back. Will try again tomorrow....

Somebody is full of crap! That recall has been out for months. I'd find another dealer. You guys know the mechanics don't get paid as much for warranty work as they do a customer cash repair, right? And Ford cut it even more in the last year.

Whoa!, What PVC repair. What isinvovled? Any way I just got the timing one done. The dealer said antwhere betweeen 1 day to 2 weeks, so be prepared. Mine only took 2 days, but the tech said with all the demand on the gasket, and if they break the cover while doing it, that may take a while.

WHAT PVC RECALL???????

Question

I can't find the V-6 recall in the recall list on this website or the NTSB. I just bought my F-150 on Monday so I want to contact the salesman about this problem. Am I missing something or hasn't the recall been made "official" by Ford yet?

You may want to go to the Ford site which
is the owners connection there you might find
the recall for the PCV 98R04 and maybe the
recall on the coolant leakage. I took my truck in only this Monday and according
to Ford the recalls are only for some models
and mostly in the East coast cold weather places. So i had to pay them $43.00 to check
about my coolant leaking and found nothing was wrong. (I hope there right)and had no transportation all day.

At the bottom of the "Safety and Recalls" page on this site is a link that will take you to www.netwiz.net/~ctbaker/problems. A number of messages refer to the timing cover gasket problem. What I'm understanding after reading all the messages related to this problem is Ford isn't "officially" calling this a recall. However, one of the messages does refers to a recall # 99B29.

Now what's interesting is that some of the messages refer to problems that happened AFTER the Ford dealer worked on the truck. Sounds like a "...damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Not good.

Another message mentions that the 4.2L V-6 is no longer in production. Can anyone verify that?

In my previous message related to the F-150 Problem site, the link created when I submitted the message is not correct. Remove the period at the end of the underlined URL link and you should be able to get to the site. Or go to the "Safety and Recalls" page and use that link.

Question

This is just getting weirder and weirder... After I left the last message about recall # 99B29, I keyed "99B29" and "Ford" into my search engine. I wound up at a site where the webmaster is fighting Ford over a known Windstar 3.8L V-6 defect (would you believe head gasket problems?). Now I couldn't find a reference to 99B29 anywhere on the site, but it does seem strange the search engine took me to that site. Anyway, if you want to go there use the following URL:
http://home.att.net/~ccatanese/ford/mainx.htm

and take a look around.
