Unhappy Quick 6, but slow shifts.

I'd like to say that my tuck is pretty quick, but what does it matter when it takes forever to run the gears? It takes so long to get that thing in to second when i'm getting on it. I'm just a little dissapointed, and I hope that someone will design a better shifter for our trucks. One with a lot shorter throw would work great.

HI FASTX98,

Amen! All of Ford's manual-tranny trucks have terrible shifters & linkage, and the aftermarket has not responded either.

My wife has a fairly nice little 99 Ranger that we've done a few goodies on, the typical Superchip, airbox elimination kit, cat-back exhaust, etc., and for it's heavy weight and 4.0 V-6, it does okay with 4.10 gears front & rear. But the shifter is horrible, just like in the F-150. The throws are very long, tough getting into 3rd quickly as it's very notchy, etc. Could easily be much better.

You would think that there are enough of these manual-tranny trucks out there that somebody would come out with a shifter for them, but we haven't seen one so far.

If you ever hear of one, by all means, please let us all know!

Good luck with your truck,

Try using a different oil. I switched to Red Line D4-AFT and it made a noticable improvement. Nothing amazing, but it does shift smoother. I have no problem slamming it into 2nd as fast as I want. It's expensive, but you only need four quarts.

FASTX98,
I just ordered the ASP underdrive pulley. I hear the install is pretty easy? Do you remember the part number for the new belt?
