Please let us know if the Airaid is worth the $229 that Airaid sells it at. The description only claims a 8 hp increase in performance which I don't think is to impressive compared to increase that the V8's get.

I E-mailed AirAid and asked them that very question, and I got this response from Sam.

The 8 Hp figure that we advertise is at the rear wheels based on a chassis dyno test.
The increase is actually more at the flywheel. Although rear horsepower figures are lower, they are actually more accurate and give a clearer idea of what to expect from a modification. 8Hp increase at the rear wheel is a noticeable improvement.

Well there you have it gang let me know what you think. Is it worth the $229.00?

I installed my Airaid yesterday. I have a whole bunch of comments in the "New Store Item..." thread.

The installation took a little longer than the 30 minutes often quoted. While I am mechanically inclined, I am not familiar with trappings of a modern engine and all of the M.A.F. and A.I.T. sensors. It took a little while to decipher exactly what Airaid was talking about in their directions. I really tripped over the M.A.F. part, because it wasn't easy to take apart.

I will say one thing. The performance increase is definitely noticeable. The truck is more responsive. Definitely worth the money and you can do it yourself in an evening without going to a shop.

I agree with the previous person...

I installed the Airaid FIPK today. The instructions were a little hard to understand, but overall, not too bad.

I have a 4.2 with a standard transmission... I noticed the increase in pick-up immediately. I only drove it a little tonight, but need more time to say if it's worth $200.

I also have a question regarding my warranty, which I'm sure has been discussed before. Am I voiding my warranty by installing this??

Also, the directions say 'for off road use only', 'not for street use'. Well, I'm not an off roader... does this matter?

I asked my dealer if the FIPK voided my warranty. He said no, but if any "check engine" lights come on and they attribute it to the FIPK then I will have to pay the $75 reset fee.

As for the "offroad use only" disclaimer I've run across this numerous times with aftermarket items. The Superwhite light bulbs that the Online Store sells also has this disclaimer and many advertisements in any truck magazine have the same disclaimer. I think it is a liability-related CYA-type thing. Much like having -LLC (Limited Liability Company) after the name of your business. The average consumer rarely takes their truck off road and if the said part with the disclaimer should fail while on the street then the manufacturer can say it was being abused and the failure of the part is not their responsibility.

Lightbulb

When an aftermarket product says "for off-road use only", it means that for some reason it is not street legal. It may actually be illegal, such as the light bulbs, (55watts is the the legal limit). or, the company has not gone to the trouble to get it approved. In this case though I would bet that the air raid has probably not gotton approval for use in california yet, so instead of waiting for approval, they slap a sticker on it, and send it out the door. This lets them get it on the market now instead of waiting on the govt. This is just my guess though.

BTW its on my list now for the next time I just have money laying around, like that'll ever happen, and that darn list just keeps getting longer

Yup, I can see the truck modification bug is starting to bite me. I wonder how much $ this will end up costing me. I'm pondering the Superchip next, but am unsure about its reliability.
