Smile 4.10 gears for 4.2L 97 v-6

I need to know where to purchase a set of 4.10 gears and installation kit for my 1997 4.2L v-6. Also I am told that the speed sensor has to be changed to correct
the computer???
Has anyone done this so I can get the rating on this. Also are these the same gears as in the 8.8 rear end???

Videoman,
I have doen this mod. you will LOVE the power gains from it, especially off the line. If you have the Superchip w/ the 4.10's LOOK OUT ! a very quick off the line truck!! I have the 8.8 which had the 3.55's. I had a shop install the gears. If you want a great product look into the US/STRANGE gears, Very good gears and made in the USA! Any 4X4 magazine will have adds in the back. I paid $180 for the gear set and $68.00 for the install kit (gears, timken bearings, shims, gasket, locktite, etc, etc.) Do your homework and call several companies. Don't settle for anything less than the best. I do not work or sell any products but I CAN tell that US/STRANGE gears are very good. Precision gears aren't too bad either, prices will vary a bit on the gears and kit, depends on the company. If you do have a gear swap done, Do yourself and the truck a favor, make sure you do a proper break-in. This will determine how long your gears will last. read on. and Good luck http://www.ring-pinion.com/Gear%20Talk/NewGear.html

will the factory gears wear out??
i would like to swap the 3.55 for the 4.10 but I'm adding mileage on my truck pretty fast and don't know if it would be worth it.

ponysix8 ,
No, the factory gears will NOT wear out. What I was trying to say is a new ring and pinion gear set has to be properly broken in. You can ruin a new set of gears if not seated properly (broken in). Refer to the link above and read the write-up on new gear brake-in proceedures. Sorry for the confusion.

F&B's,
Did you have a San Diego shop install your gears? If so, may I ask who it was??

I'm looking to get that ZIP back into my 4.2L after adding the 3" spindle lift and 285 tires.

DOMO,
Yes local shop installed them.
PRO GEAR (619) 571-1158
7455 Raytheon Road, San Diego, CA 92111
Ask for DAVE and tell him (darin, w/ the 98 F-150 and chrome diff cover says hello)
I was just there last week, the pinion seal was leaking on the truck, it was out warrenty but they replaced it for *free*, Gimpkiller also had his gears changed here as well, Hightly recommended place! Very professional and a clean shop :-)

Xenon,

Expect to be really surpised w/ the gear swap, I have NEVER heard anyone say bad things about a gear swap. I just filled up 2 days ago, my mileage was 15.8 MPG (see sig) Mileage varies w/ me though, I will get upper 16's when running on the HWY and around 15.5 in town. My wife keeps bugging me to pull the Superchip out (higher gas prices) but I can't do it. I did pull it out for 3 days (just before the San Diego Rally) but couldn't handle the poor response off the line or the lack of power when passing on the highway. So it is staying put.
