04+ 4.2 in a 97 f150??

I did a search and did not really find any info. Basicly wondering if I could use a 04+ 4.2 in my 97 f150. I figure I would have to swap over the intake manifolds since it appears the newer trucks were drive by wire. Any info would be great since I can find 04+ much cheaper than 97-03 motors. Thanks!!

The block is the same, but the electronic part is whats going to screw you over. If your 97 needs an engine, I would personally look for a 4.6L V8. They are a lot more common than the sixes

ima take a stab in the dark and say , youd prolly need to completely rewire your truck along with a new computer yada yada yada.. but if you were just wondering on using the short block then im almost certain they are the same ..

the 97-98 trucks were very basic. in 99 Ford intoduced the PATS system in which almost everything was computer controlled. the ECU from 99-08 is no way compatible with a 97-98 truck.
