Disconnecting Fuel Rail
Disconnecting Fuel Rail
My 1997 4.2 F150 is a victim of hydrolock. I need to disconnect the fuel rail from the main line. It looks like there is a special connection. In my Chilton's manual, it says you need to purchase a special tool. Has anyone done this and is there any other alternative?
there is a spring clamp that needs to be released, im not sure if one of the standard fuel line tools will get in there and open it or not.
this is from a corvette, but looks pretty similar concept

This is the tool we use at work that works on Land Rover, Jaguar, and new Ford stuff

thats what i was thinking. either way, you could call up automotive shops and see if they have it for rental
You can pick them up at most auto stores, or even harbor freight. You need these cheap plastic ones. They work best believe it or not. The set is only a few bucks and has like 5 sizes

They make some expensive universal ones.. but they don't fit as nice. These will slip right over the line, pull it into the spring side and pull the other side off. Takes about 3-10 seconds to pop one off.
They are the same as the fuel filter, but different sizes, thats why its best to have the whole 5 piece kit. The inlet line is a different size than the return. They work well with limited space also. I've owned the other scissor type and hated them.
