2002 ford f150 chugging

i have an 02 f150 V6 5 speed now it seems to "chug" a little bit while driving i replaced the fuel filter ran some seafoam threw it and cleaned the system out. i dont know whats goin on i dont have a check engine light on. i heard if i started running midgrade gasoline in it,it may correct the problem. any ideas?

midgrade isnt going to do anything. many people believe the engine will run better or pull out more performance, but in reality a higher octane is only used to stop the engine from knocking. what exactly is "chug" as is power is in/out and struggling to go? what all have you done to it since you've owned it? when was the last time you changed the plugs/wires/etc

Does it chug more when you give it gas or at different speeds...Mine did something similar and gave no codes ..did the wires plugs...turns out it was the sending unit...or coil pack which is basically the distributor...I checked it one evening just at dark and took each sparkplug wire off at the coil pack and noticed one was firing weak(the spark was weak)..replaced it for around 80 bucks and it ran great..that was the problem...

how new are the plugs? are they Motorcraft SP-504s? our engines are very picky when it comes to plugs, anything other than OEM and it will kick and holler until it gets what it wants

like raptor said, our trucks are picky on plugs, and bosch are known to be the worst in the 4.2. Might be something you should look into.

Yup, put in OEM plugs (Motorcraft) and I bet you're good to go.

motorcrap? get those silly "iridiums" out of there unless you want to damage your engine and possibly detonate it

our engines hate Bosch plugs. go to autozone and invest in a set of Motorcraft SP-504 platinums, and gap them to 0.054" and your problem is solved

ill have to look in to this when i did make the mistake of using the motorcraps it seemed like it ran worse and fouled plugs out easier.

change your coil pack/wires, that should solve that issue

I just had the coil pack replaced in my 1998. It ran okay at 30 - 40 mph, If I went faster it chugged and shook. Runs great now.

If you want to run iridiums, get Denso or NGK.
