Question HELP! diy injectors 2002 4.2

i bought my truck back in june of '07 right out of high school. my grad present to myself. anyway, i decided about two days ago that im gonna keep this thing til it craps out on me and is too expensive to fix.

that said, i figure i gotta learn how to fix some stuff on my own to save a few greenbacks. (meineke wanted 300 to change spark plugs, i did it for about 15)

now ive noticed my truck bumps or stutters when i accelerate, not all the time but its becoming more frequent. ive already changed the spark plugs and im gonna change the filter probably within the next two weeks. i was wondering how hard is it to change the injectors or should i even bother?

i dont even know where to begin with this project. any help will be much appreciated!

come on guys, help me save some money

thanks in advance

Have you changed the plug wires? Did you use Motorcraft plugs? Did you use dielectric grease? It could also be the coil pack. Fuel injectors seldom go bad. Has the CEL ever come on? If so, go get the codes read.

did i mention im a noob?

so i have no idea what the coil is or where it is.

i only changed the plugs, not the wires, i used all the grease and what not that youre supposed to. CEL came on a while back and i was told it was due to head gasket issues, but a year and a half later and some intense driving, nothing has happened with that.

and i also forgot to mention that my truck was 108+K. dont know if that makes a difference or not.

Follow the plug wires back from the plugs - they all go to the coil pack. With 108k, if the plug wires are original, they probably need changing. I had to change the plugs, wires, and coil pack at 84k to get rid of an intermittent miss. Use only Motorcraft parts!

Unless you are in California, Autozone will read out codes free if the CEL is on. Post the exact codes here, not what they tell you is wrong.

mine had that problem but plugs solved it. seeing as you already did that, the coil or wires could be the problem too.

did you use Motorcraft plugs gapped to .054" ?

Just read over this you mentioned head gasket issues? did you have that repaired? also change the fuel filter, I first bought my truck 4-5years back it did similar thing, changed filter better but still problem wound up being a fuel pump... any other noticeable performance issues??
