Everyone I know (which is 20+ people) with the F150 4.2l V6 both automatic and manual all say they are the most bullet proof engine they've ever seen.

That's telling you something there.

I have a 4.2 in my 99, and if I had it to do all over I'd buy the V8. Don't get me wrong, i love my truck, but mods are a little on the short side, and it hurts your resale value. I used to use mine for work, but that all changed a while back and now I would like to be able to add some power options, and dress it up a bit. I'll probably get run over for this post, but until I found this site, I had one hell of a time finding anyone who even knew where to find a tuner for a 4.2 V6.

The V6 is a tough-as-nails engine. I've driven several 4.6Ls and apart from the "T" after the "XL" I can't tell a difference between the two if I didn't know. My truck has pulled a 3,000K pop-up camper up the Smoky Mountains about 7 times since we've owned it and although it wasnt bred from a NASCAR engine (like the Tundra) I'm pretty happy with it. If you are power-hungry, I would go for an 8, but the insurance on this is cheaper, gas mileage is a tad better (if your counting) but not huge. Not to mention there hasnt been any plug-throwing problems and its a pushrod (4.6L and 5.4L are OHV). One more note is that its one engine where you can work on and the plugs are actually easy to change!

And Punisher, we don't want you in here ragging on our trucks. If you don't like them so much, why are you here? Surely someone with your expertise is needed in the V8 section...

I have to grant that argument Raptor, they are exceedingly easy to work on.

If you are speed hungry the 5.7 V8 Tundra might be well suited for you, they hual ***. Our V6's are a very well rounded engine, if your power hungry and an only Ford fan the 5.4 is for you, not a 4.6.
