I would like to introduce myself.

Hey guys, my name is Matt. As you may know i am very young, only 16 to be exact. The F-150 i currently drive is my second V6 F-150. My first one being a single cab, in which i found out i needed more room quick. I try my best to know every little bit about these engines and how the work. If you have any questions about our 4.2's just ask, as i will try my best to answer it accuratly and quickly.

i just bought a 97 f150, and it has a 4.2 auto in it, and i bought the truck from a guy that dropped a rod when he was starting it. anyway i need to put a new motor in it. and i wanted to know how much pulling power my truck should have? all the other trucks i have had had the 300 strait 6, with standard trans, and they all pulled everything i ever hooked up to them, thanks

Welcome to both of you

Your 4.2 wont have as much torque as your I6 did... But my 2001, 4.2, 5spd, 3.55 geared 2wd hasnt let me down yet. Pulled out small trees and bushes.. loads of rock and sand... 6,000lb trailers..etc...

Even though our 4.2's have almost the same torque numbers as a 4.9 300ci our 4.2's won't pull quite as much. I have pulled around 5500 pounds fine and probaly more at times. Unless you do some serious pulling you should be fine.

Welcome Matt. I had the feeling I knew you already.

We should line up our trucks and see who wins. Down for a road trip to Texas?
