will headers give me more horsepower and sound

i just had flowmaster 40 series in stalled on my 02 4.2 v6 with dual out..and i loved the way it sounded but if i install headers..will it give me better sound..and im not so much concerned about better gas mileage cause the oil companys already screwed us over on that..but any info would help on choice of headers and or programmers..thank's

Adding long tube headers will slightly increase hp/tq and also adding a tuner will too. You might get the v6 up to like 270 ft/lbs... maybe...

Personally... if you really want to do the truck good, save up and do F/I, like a turbo.

Ive heard headers wont add much power to our trucks but will add a nice tone to it. The MAC headers seem to be the ones of choice.
best mods to free up power:

$280 - XCAL2 tuner
$100-$500 e-fans (kits are about $500, ebay pieces for around $200, junkyard $100)
best fans---lincoln Mark VIII

and of course TURBO $3-5K

with just headers and a tune... theres no way in hell. these trucks BARELY dyno over 170 FT/LBS, ive seen 4-6 stock 4.2l dyno sheets that no one made over 180 FT/LBS

The only way i see you getting over 270 FT/LBS of torque is with some sort of power adder.

headers, intake, full exhaust, custom tune, cam, P&P,lower ring and pinion (4.10) ,then the power adder of your choice (Nitrous, Supercharger, turbocharger) but with those and a good tune you should be in the 300 FT/LBS range.

a complete built motor will also get you there as well.

we are talking about real numbers... not crank number correct?

I was talking crank @ 270.

But yep, you are right with realistic #'s.

I just got home from a call out its 5 am here and im not about to look that word up.

but anyways. Im geussing you mean a 30% loss to the drivetrain.

but really you cant put a specific percentage on it.

theres a bunch of stuff that comes into play.

cab size, bed size, bed type (all these are weight related)

Rear differental, if you take the same exact truck and install 3.55's in it first and hit the dyno, then install the 3.73's and hit a dyno the run with 3.73 will have more torque making it to the round. The differental isnt MAKING hp/tq but transferring it better.

type of transmission: manual or auto.

4x4 or 4x2

all these things make a difference

If none of that makes sence im sorry im tired just had 3 call out in the last 8 hours.

The more flow, the better as far as HP and Torque. The Flowmasters sounds great, but they won't do you any favors beyond that because thier a chambered design. A straight thru design is best as far as #'s. - Bassani, Corsa, Borla, Magnaflow etc....

The only way your going to loose from more flow is if your not tuned for it.

Yes, headers will add sound.

2WD -

That's pretty close for a rough (w/stick).

35% might be a little closer for a rough (w/auto).
