We'll since I've done everything except the plugs. I can answer your question since I've owned both a 97 4.2l and I currently own a 05 4.2l. Only reason I'm on here is cause I also own an 08 5.4l. I've been with V6F150 for yrs and it's one of the best forums out there, but I can't get to it while deployed. So now to your question.

Intake: Mac Intake or K&N but I prefer the MAC look, good addition to that motor.

Headers: Mac ceramic headers cause their cheap than the rest and their equal length shorties. They do need tightening once in awhile though but they don't require gaskets.

Exhaust: I've installed flowmaster 40 series then scrapped it and did true duals with glasspacks. For you though I would just do a magnaflow bolt on or something. 05 and above have a really nice exhaust note especially with glasspacks but you're not going to get anything deep out of our 4.2 especially the early models.

I would reccomend 4.10 gears and LSD unit. One of the best upgrades I did in my old 97. I would also get an XCAL2/3 from VMP tuning. He's one of the sponsors on V6F150 and has more experience with V6 mustangs and F150's then anyone I know. Hope this helps.

Oh you want to continue this, well ok then. 1st your wrong about the crank horsepower of the 4.6, it's 248, and the torque is 293. And 2nd, comparing a stock 4.6 to a heavily modified 4.2 is like comparing apples to oranges. Comparing a stock 4.2 to a stock 4.6 is what you should be saying. If I ever turbo charge my truck and all those other things, I'll be happy to stomp the living **** out of your truck, but until then shut up.

actually its 231 for the 4.6l v8 f150.

so your wrong.

but still... my 03 is about 600lbs lighter than your 4.6l. i doubt you will ever turbocharge your truck, just keep talking out of your ***. sorry your all butt hurt over this conversation.

even if my truck were completely stock right out of the dealership with stock rims and all. against your heavy *** new body style 4.6l i think it would be a very close race, both reg cab flairsides but yours weighs 4,708 and mine weighs 4,185.

weight makes a big difference incase you didnt know

oh im not sayin you didnt have the right to post in this section by far, and yes he did post in the engine section but the thing i see is he posted this in the v6 engine section. like tj is sayin anyone can build up whatever they want just because you have a 4.6 and YOU think its the greatest thing in the world doesnt mean everyone else should. everyone has there own opinion on what they prefer, because, IMO i prefer a 5.0 to anything out there theres so much potential with that motor but you on the other hand think that a 4.6 is the greatest invention since sliced bread i mean yeah you do have a roush grille so that brings it to what a 4.7 or 4.8? anyway you have to rag on the guy with the v6 because he only has a loaf and no slices and if you dont have advice for the guy then you dont need to be postin in the thread plain and simple

Let's take a look here, what did I do with it, oh here it is!. You're a very immature little child you know tj? I'm sure your mommy and daddy didn't think you could handle the V8's, so they stuck with the 6. You're overly defensive of your tiny little piece of machinery aren't you? And why so much talk about butts? Got a "thing" for them?

MI02SVT, you actually have a nice ride and are a far more mature individual compared to your fellow 4.2 user.

motortrend doesnt know what there talking about and besides... you have an 06...shouldnt be any different but who knows...

im not the one being so defensive. infact i have a v8. my v6 is my second vehicle.

i have a 4.6l v8 in my bullitt edition mustang. im sure it will beat your f150 too

take your chromed out "piece of machinery" elsewhere. Actually, just try to total it so you can get a real v8, a 5.4l

i guess everyone here with a 4.2l v6 coudlnt handle the v8 so our mommy and daddy had to stick us with 6's

maybe santa will bring you some more chrome to stick on that ol hoopty :santa:

i hope santa brings me a roush grill and a bed liner so i can add that to my list of "mods"

No wonder they made a V6 section, they wanted to lock away all the douches and *******s away from the general public! There's no reasoning with you people. Just continue to think 4.2's are blessed by Jesus as normal! Carry on.

At least we don't go in peoples thread to tell them to crash it so they can get a V6.

You couldn't tell that was a joke? I'm sure his insurance company would catch on pretty fast.

I dont know how much harder i can actually laugh at 4.6 Punisher. Well first of all his name is funny as ****. How can 4.6 and punisher even be together lol. And wow you pretty much have a stock 4.6 which is ****. I dont even see how you can even talk about TJ's truck. Yours is nothing compared to it. So your bed is better than his wow good for you. And i dont see us V6er's come and smash on your V8's in your topic so now its moved get out. And if your ever around Sealy, Texas ill be more than happy to kick your 4.6 ********** A** any day in my V6

as for the mods for the V6

1. Xcal 2 or 3
2. CAI (all are pretty good)
3. Exhaust (flows or IMCO)
4. UD Pulley
5. Headers
and the Line-X bedliner gives you 30 hp so i would go for that lmao

What up ST? Good to see you over here on the other side of the river!

As for the OP, Silver Thunder has the perfect list, but I would also add E-fans to that list
