the airbag light on the dash should be blinking for a while then stay solid for a while then repeat. Its actually giving you a code to tell you whats wrong. Go count the blink sequence and post it on here and I can help you better. (example sequence: light flashes 2 times, pauses, then flashes 7 times...It should repeat this sequence about 5 times then go solid)
Once we know the problem we can help you out a bit easier.

Put some duct tape over it. Then you won't have to see it. My dad did that with his "check engine" light.

Here is how to fix it on the cheap

you don't have to replace the entire PAD module, you just have to replace one LED. Here is a simple video I made on how to fix it.

I had to steal a 10 amp fuse out of my fusebox under the hood to run a power inverter during a hurricane. I made the mistake of starting the truck after the storm had passed without replacing the fuse. The air bag light began flashing. I don't remember how many flashes, then it would stay on even after i replaced the fuse. If the truck senses any interruption in the power to the air bag system it will throw a code and it cannot be cleared except by the "super code reader." After reading a few posts on this site, I decided to do nothing and let it reset itself. It did after about 6 weeks.

My advise it to try to search for air bag codes and make certain that your code was due to a power interruption. Make sure you have a good fuse in the box under the hood. Then bite the bullet and go to the dealer, or wait 6 weeks and pray you don't need the airbag.

Good luck.

Great how-
to man, but I took mine apart the first time and tripped the magnet on the switch and it worked for a little while then quit.

Wow.

I tripped the airbag light changing those two burned out AC display bulbs. I guess having to disconnect that pad (it's plugged back in) did that. Darn.

One of these days, I will get around to getting that reset. Been about a year and a half, too.

I wish 6 weeks was the cure...

I'm not the first person to have the airbag reset after 6 weeks. do you think you have the error code due to the interruption of power to the air bag system?

maybe but I took off the battery terminals for about 10 minutes after I unplugged the switch. Wouldn't that reset the code.

code 27 only

The video I made is specifically for the "code 27" (2 flashes, pause, 7 flashes).I'm pretty sure this code and step by step video are the same for a handful of year models around 1999 and on the ranger and expedition as well as the F-Series trucks. The truck throws that code out specifically due to that LED in the PAD (passenger airbag deactivation) assembly being out. That lights only purpose is to indicate that the passenger airbag is not on, yet if it goes out the entire airbag system will not deploy in an accident(or so I have read on other F-150 sites). Literally all you have to do is take the PAD assembly out, pop it open and solder another LED where the burnt out one is. You don't even have to remove the old bulb, just use the existing solder to attach the new one. My video tells you exactly what bulb it is, Radio Shack has them in three packs for around $3.00. I can see no reason to take this problem to the dealer and spend upwards of $90.00 or to wait it out and hope it goes away and risk not having your airbags deploy if you find yourself in a collision. It took me literally around 10 minutes to fix the problem and filming it. I tried to make the video as complete and detailed as possible so even if you don't know the difference between the radio volume **** and AC **** you can do it.

But PLEASE, for God's sake, don't ignore or delay on repairing this problem if you do have the code 27 flashing, your safety and the safety of your passengers is well worth the 3 bucks and 15 minutes it will take to correct this issue. Sorry to be so long winded but when people were saying let it be maybe it will fix itself, I had to make a point. Thanks for listening to me, drive safe.
