Contaminated gas?

I put a few gallons of 87 octane in my 99 f-150 yesterday. About a half mile from the station, the truck sputtered and backfired continuosly. I managed to get home, but barely. The truck ran fine before i put the gas in. It sounds like contaminated gas. If it is, is the station responsible for all the damage to the engine the gas might cause and replacement of parts? I'm assuming they would be insured in against this. Unfortunately i didn't save the receipt because i paid cash, but i go there regularly for gas and occasional repairs. Hopefully the lady that took my money will remember me coming in.

Well, it could be bad gas. But proving it and holding the gas station responsible is entirely a different matter. What are you going to do? Ask for a refund? Sue them?

Of course i can't prove it was the gas and i am willing to admit it is just a coincidence, but i talked to the owner of the station and the mechanics and they said there is no way it could be the gas, that they check it everyday for water or other contaminants. Well if the gas supposedly comes in free of conatminants, why do they have to check? I'm sure they have insurance against this happening.Anyway, the truck had been running fine until i got that tank of gas. So it's possible it was the gas. What burns me is i've been fueling there for years and getting some repair work done.

Just shove some old garden hose into your tank, suck out the old gas, and get some new gas.

And change the fuel filter and put a couple bottles of Heet in the tank.

Ya probably got a piece of dirt stuck in the one of the injectors. I had the same problem. Thru a #3 cylinder misfire code. Use the same gas station, an the same gas always. Sunoco Ultra. Changed the fuel filter, an thru 2 bottles of 91% alcohol in the tank. Cleared up after about 15/20 miles. Cleared the code. Never had the problem again.

If you think it's dirty injectors, BG44K is the best stuff to throw in the tank.

My mechanic checked the truck and said it wasn't the gas causing the problem, however he still doesn't know what's wrong. Compression is good. Sensors, injectors, plugs and wires are fine. I'm waiting for him to call back with updates. Anything internal that could cause the rough running and backfiring?
