I also have an '07 4.2L V6. Mine takes 6 quarts. It even says in the manual to use 6 quarts. I'm sure that since the oil level is in the middle of the dipstick crosshatch with 6 quarts, I could get away with using 5 quarts or even add up to 7 quarts, and the oil level on the dipstick will still be in the crosshatch area. But the manual says 6 quarts, the dealership uses 6 quarts, and that's what I use.

My 99 4.2 always takes 7 quarts. I use RP in the tranny and rear gears. I figure if it has to be in there for so long just use the good stuff. In the motor I use castro high mile 5w 20. I always change it at 5000 miles as per the manuel. Almost 150,000 miles no engine problems at all. Ben

Royal Purple advantage

I have '04 3 valve 5.4, used mobile 1 since first oil change, pushing 160k now. switched to RP 5w-20. Average mileage went from 16.2 mpg to 17.8. Constant engine clicking disappeared and engine response is dramatic. When I changed from mobil 1 , before draining,I added 1 qt. of the rp and drove 500 miles. It removed all the varnish that had built up from the mobile 1. Burnt red color when drained. I am astonished at the differance. All synthetics are not equal!!!!!!!

its his first post, so either he works for royal purple or is a distributor trying to drum up business. RP is no better than Pennzoil Ultra, Mobile One, or Castrol Edge

go away spammer!!

I have always bought the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20 and Motorcraft filter usually right off the shelf in WalMart for around $30 total. I've change it every 4,000 miles since new with 150,000 miles now. The shop that installed my rear open diff. gears used RoyalPurple and it was changed once after 1000 miles on the gears. Now after 50,000 miles it still quietly works...great product and it was recommended!

If I see anything incriminating I'll delete it. I may earn the title for deleting oldest post.

autozone sometimes has sales on mobil1. i got mine yesterday. there deal is 5qts of EP plus EP filter for $35. and the normal price per qt is $9. my receipt says a savings of $22 and some change for the deal.

I usually buy 7qts but end up with a half quart or so. my 04 heritage 4.2L took just over 6, my 08 4.2L takes about 6.5-7.

well use 6. but then after driving, like a few days later, check the level. sometimes it will be lower because after its run it holds some oil in the filter so it will be less in the pan. mine read right in the middle of the crosshatch at 6qts but i added another half so it still has enough after the filter fills up. its just preferrance really tho.
