Exhaust or Programmer?

Thats why it's called a custom exhaust, headers + high flow cats + X pipe + mufflers and you will see 20+
What do I know though I have a 4.6 with high flow cats + X + Spintech Pro Streets,I had a Magnaflow cat-back and when I switched I had hp gains over the whole rpm band.

second they dont make long tubes for a 4.2, the mustang long tubes are supposed to fit and i have seen dyno number to prove that they add 20 hp , anything else is custom made!
third you are the v8 version of Raptor!

Bye bye
Programmer first
If you want a new exhaust do what most do and buy a muffler that can be welded in place of the stock one. Much cheaper than a system and its the same thing.
First muffler I bought was a Bassani- $125, and instal was $125 to re run the exhaust in front of the tire. $250
Current system is a dual Cb extreme- $103 for both mufflers, $25 for mandrel 90* turn, and $245 for the install.

now back to your question...
programmer will give you more performance... but i would go with an exhaust first because the programer will raze your egt's... and i no in a diesel egt's are important... but im not sure in a gas...
but i would go with an exhaust first just simply for that reason... but the only reason to go with an exhasut is to lower the egt's when you put the programer on it... therefore you will need a bigger exhaust...
thats the only way you will lower the egt's
but like i said in a diesel the egt's matter alot... but im not sure about gas... so i guess i will find out on the replys to this statement.
Get the tuner first for sure. You won't feel any difference with exhaust....unless you spend upwards of $1500 or so for a full custom exhaust with headers, etc, even then you will barely notice any difference on a big, heavy, pig of a truck. Waste of $ IMO.
how can that be.... i put the duals on mine... and it sounds better and looks better and definetly made a diffrence... i could really tell... i odnt know what your talking about but im thinkin that your wrong... but thats just me sayin that.
Because Ford's diesel EGT's are around 1300* and you thinking that a 4.2 gas engine will put out that kind of heat, and thinking gas engines have to worry about egt's.
And honestly that exhaust might have possibly gave you 5hp. Maybe. the sound of the exhaust gives you the impression that you got a "big seat of the pants gains"
Have you had a programmer? It will do much more than a exhaust will do.
Programmers can always have new tunes loaded to them for a fee. I got rid of my 87 MPG tune for a 87 performance tune. I paid $50, same as what Justin at VMP charges and I'm sure thats what Troyer charges.

See post #27.
id rather have a stock sound if mine were still naturally aspirated.
a v6 doesnt sound good.
my truck being turbo'd and all sounds pretty good for a 6 i guess.
but on a cold start where the rpms are high and its warming up it sounds awful.
