Yeah... just get used to it. Personally... it's funny you mention this... because I also drive a Jeep Compass, and once in a blue moon I am sitting someplace with the engine running, and it runs so smoothly I forget that it's running and try to crank it.

At least with the 4.2l you know it's running.

Mine vibrates when it's on and idleing... enough to feel like the truck is shaking...
glc, after first reading this thread... did you get a different feeling? After re-reading it myself... there *might* be something wrong... but it's really hard to diagnose.
With the way your describing, it doesn't sound normal at all.
You can try holding the trip reset button on the instrument cluster before cranking and it will give you a tach. readout, and you can at least know if it is idling too low, if in fact this works on the newer models.
I have 03 v6 manual, w/~30000, and it idles about as smooth, maybe smoother than any V8 i have driven. I had a 01 v6 manual with 130000 miles that idled very rough though, but still nothing close to what your describing.
The O.P.'s truck maybe idling a little too low, or there is another problem. Mine idles right at 850.

My 2007 4.2L V6, XL, idles (when warmed up) at or about 660 RPM. Keep in mind that this is a ScanGauge II #. The ScanGauge II is a fairly good device for these kinds of readouts. Ever thought of taking the truck into another dealership for diagnostics? Perhaps they can find something that the first dealership didn't. I'm telling you that it is not normal, for any car, to idle violently and shake the car. It could be something simple. Perhaps a PCM re-flash will recalibrate your idle speed. A custom tune could fix that issue also. However, it could be more than that. It may be something mechanical. Broken motor mount? Have it looked at and insist that they work on your truck under warranty. You paid a lot of money for a new car. Insist that it is right. There is no excuse for a new car to not be right.
Ya, take her in and have them take a quick look to see if any codes have popped up. Your still under warranty. You paid for it might as well use it! Got my 07 last April too, have almost 10,000 miles on her now. I like the six a lot more than I ever thought I would.

try another dealership.
if its shaking that bad something is wrong,
mine was doing that when in drive while sitting stopped. it would shake really bad but this was after increased pressure in the lines and all that after my dyno tune. it went away..i think it was the converter locking up.
anyway on your stock brand new truck find another dealership...

Actually that test was after about a 2 mile drive home from school. I did it this morning, cold start and it was everywhere from 1050 to 1200. Mostly it rested in the 1080-1130 range. Is this a little bit better?
