V6 - How is the power

Thinking about getting a V^ F150 short bed with a stick shift. How is the power, is it underpowered? Also what kind of fuel mileage do you get on the open road but not freeway. I drive about 38 miles one way to work. It is all country driving but not freeway.

Thanks

George

it depends on the year. 98-99 have about 210 hp while 00-03 have about 202. The mileage ranges anywhere from 15-20 mpg, depeding on if you granny shift or dog it. I have a 01 Ext cab, and i usually get about 17 @ 70-75mph, and around 18-19 @ below 60. Like i said, it depends on the type or driver you are.

we'll,

a v6 f150 is pretty good. i dont know about the 04 on up because there so much heavier. but they are capable of handling a lot.

i enjoy mine but mine has a ton of power. at the crank mine makes abou 325hp and 398tq however at the wheels its only 275rwhp and 338rwtq

im not sure about the crank but theres about an 18 percent loss by the time it gets to the wheels

anyway, a stock v6 f150 will do just about anything you want it to do and has abou 155-160rwhp

the mileage is pretty good. however a 4.6l v8 will do just about the same on the mileage. had i known that before i bought it i may have gone with a 4.6l v8... BUT if you want a real badass v8 get the 5.4l.

anyway the 4.2l v6 makes like a whopping 20-30hp less than the 4.6l

I had a 04 Heritage with the 4.2. Its not a bad motor at all, it gets the job done. IT certainly aint a V8 but its sufficient. I got around 16MPG mixed city and highway, and I have a heavy foot.

I recently traded it for a 07 5.4. Like said above its a bad ***, but the V6 is fine, but I would NOT get it in the new body style. old body style is fine, but to me the new body style is just too heavy for it. unless its a regular cab. A supercab or screw I would not even think of the 4.2 as a choice for those.

The weight issue is why they only offer the V6 with a standard cab 4x2 now. Mine has plenty of power for what I need it for, and gas mileage has ranged from 13 to 23.

It's fine as far as power goes if you get the standard shift.

Yeah, mine was a auto with 3:55 and oh man, going up north in the mountains I would be flooring it and doing 55...no more than that it sucked.

New truck can do 90+ all the way with out breaking a sweat though
