Some pointers please

Hey guys how we doin,.....im new on here but among all i think you guys are probably way ahead of the game than I. I have a 2002 Ford F-150, V-6 and i need some performance pointers for a man on a budget. What are some key updates right off the bat that need to be done on a v-6 not only for performance, but basics?.........any advice will be taken in and noted i would appreciate it. I have owned ford rangers when i was a kid, but i finally got my f150 and im excited as hell yall let me know on this please.

Cold air intake (air raid or k&n perferably)should be arond 190 to 220$...go to ebay and get it...throttle body spacer(air raid) 90$ from summit.....then maybe a jet chip....that should wake it up a little, nothing spectacular but it'll get ya started...try a exhaust to

devil-get friendly with the search button and the v6 engine section, this topic has been discussed alot, if you want a whole bunch of info head over to v6f150.com

as to the parts i disagree with 97. heres what ive learned from over at the site mentioned and the few v6 guys here
intake-mac(160-170)
exhaust magnaflow(60-70 for the muffler itself)
throtle body spacers-not worth anything on our engines(usually called paper weights around here)
chips-dont bother,go for a plug and play tuner-they cost more but give you alot more in both performance and utility. look into vmp and troyer

a more expensive mod but one with great gains would be a gear swap. all the mods mentioned above will probably only give you at most around 35 hp and MAYBE 1or 2 mpg. gears will give you much much better acceleration and speed but will kill your gas mileage on the highway and will wind your motor out sooner. nothin will make these engines fast, if you do everything i mentioned including gears you will probably be able to keep up with a stock v8-now you want to beat a v8-custom turbo setup.

x2

magnaflow exhaust

K&N Intake system

Troyer Programmer

NO THROTTLE BOY SPACER waste of money

uderdrive pulleys

gears 4.10 for stock-33's tires/ 4.56 for 35's/ 4.88's for 37's..

Now for around 4000 you could have a custom turbo put on (more for installation if you arent doing it yourself) and depending on boost you can get alot of HP out of that... not to long ago someone posted their charts and was in the range of 330 hp with stock internals.. just a thought... its expensive but it will give you the most bang for the buck!

Don't listen to this guy to begin with

throttle body spacer---JUNK
P&P, half shaft the throttle body $30 <-get more gain than a spacer

jet chip---------------JUNK
Xcal1 $300.... Xcal2-3 $399-$405 3 tunes on both

k&n-------------------For the price you can buy a MAC $170 and have 2 K&N filters to put on it.

Exhaust----- I liked my stock exhaust better

also gibson makes headers for the 4.2's if it gives anthing performance wise im not sure but it would seem to likely reduce a little back pressure.. i would think... im not sure they are worth 500-600 dollars though! im getting headers eventually just for the fact of having them and maybe im wrong but dont they make the truck sound better?

I have the Gibsons (got a deal, $175 shipped) and they are just a little larger than the stockers, and gives a deeper sound.

MAC equal length headers will preform better, Or you can get mustang Long tubes and adjust them to fit. (forgot which year though)
