my fuel mileage today was 22.8!! WTF?
I recently saw a post on another Ford enthusiast website a guy claiming to get 25 mpg from his V6 F150 if he drives at 63 mph. I had to go to Rochester NY today to pick up an iron gate (only 150lbs) for a project. I took my 2001 F150, V6, 5spd. 3.55 rear end . So I filled the tank to the flap in the neck and took off on the 438 mile roundtrip. I set the cruise control at 63mph and pissed off everyone on I-90 for the next 7 1/2 hours.
Except for 18 miles of city/suburban driving all the rest was on the interstate. Back in Albany I refilled the tank at the same gas station up to the flap in the neck and it took 19.2 gallons with 438 miles on the trip odometer which equals 22.8 MPG. I nearly sheot! I usually drive 70 mph on the interstate and get a little over 17 mpg. I can't beleave that driving 7mph slower gave me a 25% increase in fuel mileage.
Any else had similar experiences?
BTW I did put new tires on last week, same stock size and diameter though a different brand , but still tires shouldn't make that much difference

I love my truck.

Here's my personal best so far:

That is carrying 800 to 1000 lbs of tools, with the A/C on.
Oh and the worst I ever got was like 13 mpg... but that was tons of city driving.

BTW, it appears you have your "A/C" set to "warm"

BTW what happened to all your snow out there? I have never been through your area this time of year and not see snow on the ground, you don't even have any in the woods!

Yeah it melted... a friend of mine keeps telling me that we are not going to see much more in terms of snow fall.
I dunno if I can believe him... it seems like it is going to pull what it did last year - where it snowed 30" on Valentines day... I think it is going to happen 2 days after Valentines day this year. How do I have that "feeling"? Because it was 65F on Jan 6, 2007 (day I picked up my F150). This year it was 65F on Jan 8, 2008. See the pattern?! I'm kind of curious to see if it will play out like it did last year...
But what am I talking about!? Why do I want all of this snow anyways?! I've got RWD! So I hope it don't snow.

It's not unusal to get 22 MPG every once and awhile. It's happen to me but it
doesn't happen everytime on a road trip. Wind conditions can make or break

I pulled 23.2 once from Durango to Colorado Springs, up and down the mountains on 85 octane high altitude gas, taking 550, 50, 285, and 24. Blew my mind. I wasn't ******* it either, there were long uphill stretches where I was flat on the floor and long downhill stretches in lower gears to save the brakes. That's the best I've ever gotten but I *can* get 20+ on the Interstate if I drive slow.

Drive slow, it's fun to **** everyone off...
