I'm back after a long time gone
I don't even know if the same people post here since the last time I was on - but, I basically gained an F150 today when my golf buddy bought an 07, 4.2L V6 single cab F150 - he replaced a very horrible extended cab GMC Sierra that was giving him major issues (go figure). My model year was a 2002, so I'm not 100 percent familiar with any changes that were made between 02 and now.
Since there are no doubt some of you who have a new body style V6, I wanted to ask if this is normal. The truck runs great, drives like a dream, but I noticed while I was sitting there looking under his engine that his compressor clutch appears to really make some noise when clutching on and off.
The truck only has 70 miles on it (50 that he put on just today). Is the hard clutching noise something that is NORMAL and will go away over time or is this something that needs to be checked out when it's there to get the sprayed on bedliner in the next few days?

Hey stranger!
I'd say it's not normal. I'd tell him to get it checked out ASAP since it's under warranty. Sounds like it might be low on r-134a refrigerant to me. That makes the AC pump kick on alot more and accelerates wear on the clutch. Sounds like there could be a leak somewhere in the AC system, or the factory didn't put enough r-134a in it. Just a guess.

It sounds like it's clutching really hard. On my Fusion and the Explorer, the clutching sound is noticeable, but not anywhere as pronounced as this sound. It doesn't sound bad, but I really think it's also causing an acceleration issue - his 4.2V6 doesn't quite have the get up that mine had in 1st and 2nd. That could also be causing his issue.
Other than this, he's got a damn fine truck. I'll be back here for good when Ford releases the diesel engine in the F150 (whenever THAT is!!). But, I know I'll be on here at least trying to keep current so that I can answer the questions he has. He knows nothing about Ford trucks.

Well, I don't know what's up with his truck. It's a great truck.....the line in aux port really makes the portable 7" DVD player he got thanks to me from the dealership really helps. On an interesting note, the sound the other day disappeared when I was helping him take off his toolbox at midnight. However, during the day (like for instance, today when we went to play golf) the AC will seem to go through it's "arctic winter" period and will go through a period where I would definitely not call it COLD air coming out of those vents. I've read all kinds of threads here about the AC system in the Fords (in general) sucking, yet the AC system in my Fusion and the AC system in my wife's Explorer blow out some COLD A** AIR!!!! Doesn't matter if it's 70 or 90 outside - this F150 is another story.
thereisnospoon,
what's up stranger.the 06 clicks but no louder then any other clutch on any other open hood truck or car I ever owned.that being said the open hood sound is atleast 10x louder then the closed hood sound IMHO! Later

Thanks TSDAN. That's kind of what I thought. The click hasn't returned yet he is neurotic about his truck and swears the AC system is about to blow or something. Hell, the other day when I got into his truck he nearly made me take my shoes off.......and he has vinal mats. Funny - he didn't do the same thing when he had his POS Sierra.......
