V8 Swap???
i'm new to this whole forum thing and im not really sure what im doing, so if i do something stupid you know why..lol
I have a 2002 Reg. Cab/ Short Bed F-150 with the 4.2L V-6, and a 5spd manual. Now dont get me wrong the V-6 has great power and i really i like the motor in it, and the fact that its a 5spd makes it a whole lot more fun, (not to mention its nothing like my dad's old 2000 auto-tranny Ranger with the aneorexic V-6 which counldn't get out of its own way.) But i can't help but wonder how much better it would be if it had a v-8. I've driven an Ext. cab/short bed. 4.6L V-8 5spd, and Automatic and though the power was really nice in the 5spd and kinda sluggish in the automatic.
...anyway my question is... Would a V-8 swap be worth my time and money, i dont mind working a little and i really like the thought of having a V-8 5spd Reg. Cab/ Short Bed and i deff. want to keep the 5spd. Am i correct in the assumption that the 5spds are different in the V-6/ V-8?....what would i need for the swap, does the V-6 come with an 8.8 inch rear end, or something smaller? How does a 4.2 sound with an exhaust system, iam a hadcore musclecar guy, and i love the sound of a V-8 how does it compare???

4.6l V8 -
231 HP @ 4750 RPM
293 ft/lbs @ 3500 RPM
4.2l V6 -
202 HP @ 4800 RPM
252 ft/lbs @ 3400 RPM
Only 29 hp and 41 ft/lbs. Simple bolt ons would get you this on the v6. However, if you got the V8, there is a little bit more area in the supercharging range. However, that doesn't mean you can't do that to the v6.
I can't believe that most people around here settle for kits... a REAL supercharger mod is one that is done from the ground out. Makes it much more fun. Anyhow, you can get a supercharger on this v6 by going to a shop for about the same as a kit. So either way around $3k to $4k. And it's a lot easier. Not to mention if properly tuned will out run a 4.6l and a 5.4l v8 as far as hp and torque.
So what I am getting at, is the fact that there IS potential for the v6... just that people don't spend a lot of time because they think it's a wimpy engine or what not. Till they get beat by a v6 F150 S/C in there nice 5.4l with a Vortech.

I know this seems a little crazy but I am going to put the Roush 402LR in my F150. I know it seems a little wild but I want the baddest truck out there. Yes I know I have to replace the whole drive train and the suspension but I want to have this truck for a while and I want it to be fast. The thing is Im not gonna put anything on it that shows what kind of engine it has. Even a exhaust to keep it quiet with the exhaust valves to make it straight pipes. I hate to talk about the price though $$,$$$.$$ Friends say just buy a truck with a V8 but they dont produce what I want.
