2001 4.2L v6/5-spd, 73,000 miles. I use Valvoline Durablend 5W-30. My 01' has had two problems so far which was a busted pinion seal, and a bad egr sensor. Regular oil and tranny fluid changes, changed the coolant twice, and new brakes is all I've done to it. Runs like a top. I'm switching to Valvoline Max Life motor oil on the next oil change. The only other thing is, second gear is starting to whine a little now if I shift it fast, but I think it's just a synchro going out. No big problem. I hope to keep this truck and rebuild the tranny if it needs it. I think it's got alot of miles left in it. She's been good to me.

I had a 95 F-150 4x4, 5 speed trans, had the 4.9 V6, that had 150000 miles on it, before it was totaled out.......I had the front bearings, hubs, ect changed, brakes, didnt have anything else done to it.....

I now have a 89 F-150 4x4 with a 4.9 V6 with 155600 miles on it.....drive it every day to work......great running truck......

I love the 4.9L 300 c.i. six cylinder engine. I had an 88' F150 that had the 4.9L in it. It had a slight knock in the bottom of the engine when I bought it (connecting rod I think). I believe it was abused by the previous owner. I drove that thing like I stole it for another 80,000 miles before I traded it off, and it still ran just like the day I bought it. You can't kill a 4.9L.

190000 on my 1997 xlt and the only problems were a warped rotor on the passenger side and I had to replace my air intake sensor because of the 3 miles of dry dirt road i go down to get home and leave every day, other than that its been outstanding last time i figured it up i was getting 23 miles to the gallon with performance spark plugs and not so aggressive driving style but every weekend it pulls the boat to the water and i pull scrap every few weeks somtimes including cars to a yard 30 miles away. Oh and by the way the last 2 vechiles I pulled were silverados with blown motors
