Does this thing tow?

I am trying to convert my dad over to the dark side, he is a die hard chevy man and he sees how well all my Ford's due and he is looking at up grading his truck and I came across this 99 ext cab xlt 2wd. Exactly what he wants with really low miles for a decent price but I his only concern with it is will it tow a 17ft camper with tandem axles? He has an old chev 6.2 diesel that is tired and would pull the camper but didn't like to. I was looking on conusmer guide and they list both the 4.2 ford and 6.2 chev at 255 Ft lbs of tourque. It wouldn't need to haul it around very much but maybe 10 times a year. Please pass on your knowledge. Thank You

No comparison - the diesel will tow much better. However, the Ford may be sufficient - IF it's properly equipped.

What tranny does the Ford have, what axle, and what's the various ratings on the door sticker? What's the loaded weight and tongue weight of his camper rig?

I tow a 25' Airstream - no problems.

Having the right gears makes life easier towing with a 4.2. With stock tires, 3.73 gears should do nicely towing a 17' travel trailer.

I had a Suburban with a 6.2L diesel before the F150 - tell your dad he won't miss the ol' Chevy.

Hi, I tow a Flagstaff superlite 23FB trailer, tandem axel. it weights in fully loaded about 3600lbs. The v6 is a good hard working engine, I won't win any races but I tow the trailer about 7000 miles every year with no problems. Just use tow/haul mode and don't go over 60 miles 100 kms an hour and enjoy. A picture of my rig is in my photo gallery.

Ahh! I noticed that you replaced your 2WD valance with the factory one with the fog lights. I want to do this really badly. Where did you get one, how did you put it on, and how much did it cost? Did you replace your interior light switch as well?

Thanks.
