Noise in front end 2001 F-150

I would appreciate any suggestions. I know it is very hard to describe a noise, but here it goes. I have a 2001 F-150 4.2 V6 5 speed manual. About 6 months ago a noise started coming from the front when driving. It is a metal on metal tinking almost like aluminum. The noise is not consistent with RPM, clutch engaged, shifting or speed, it just randomly happens only when moving. It is getting worse every day and the mechanic I take it to has no idea, he checked the U joints and said they were fine. Thanks for any help.

Check the engine brackets used to lift the engine in and out. You can tighten them or take them off. Most of the time this is usually the problem; however, I only notice it at slow speeds/stopping.
