Question Plug Wires

I have a 2000 F150 Ext. Cab V6 4.2 liter with 140,000 miles. I want to the plug wires but don't know any tricks to getting back behind the engine against the fire wall to remove the wires from the clips. Any suggestions?

If you're replacing them why not just "yank" em out!
Seriously, you'll have to feel your way back there. On mine,I routed the wires straight from the coil rite to the plugs.

Take a flat blade screwdriver and stick it in between the wire loom and the wires, then yank up on it pretty hard. Don't worry about damaging the wires, you'll be throwing them away anyway.

When you go to put your new wires on, pop the clip back on and position your wires the way you want them and close the clip. That's how I did it. Good luck.

Yep,and it looks alot better that way too.The wire dividers that were on the back side of the engine are now used to keep the wires divided nicely as they go straight to the plugs.BTW,I had a Ford tech tell me how much better it looked with the wires ran that way.

Hello

I will change my ignition wires soon. I like the idea of not routeing behind the engine. Are you saying to route them over the top directly to the plugs?

Thanks

Harry

Yes, You can route them over the intake manifold straight down to the plugs. However; when I dug into mine I realized the new wires were a bit longer. I decided to route the wires similar to the original wires. I had to lay on top of the engine for most of the operation. I also pulled the original wires out all at one time. I had a diagram showing which plugs went to which terminal on the coil pack. I think the main idea is to keep the new plug wires off of the exhaust manifold so they don't melt. One helpful tool was a DVD I obained from Flatratetech.com . It has all the service and technical info for my truck and only costs a small fee. I have found F150online.com to be much more helpful though.

I have no digital cam so there is no way of posting pics.
I had one wire that was too long to route directly to the plug so I routed it just under the master cylinder (#1 plug),in a wire divider,to the plug.
