yeah they make chips for the 4.2 L's. I had a Jet Performance Chip on my old '98. It was a 5spd so it didn't help with the shift points or anything like that. Im sure there are better chips or custom tuners but for an off the shelf chip i thought it was pretty good.

and if so are they worth buying?
depends what you are expecting out of it.
Better Gas Milage?? Maybe
More Power?? Yeah a little more power

i've heard bad things about jet chips...for anything.
there are chips available in anything from a one-program to a tuner with your own programing software...so what do you want? if you check out the "other" site you'll see some more info. and mike has a good product too, got several tunes off of him.

I've never heard anything good about JET chips. Superchips will give you the biggest gains as far as computer chips go. Superchips build power throughout the rpm range. If I'm not mistaken, Jet chips just work only at wide open throttle. Chips and tuners both do the same thing for the most part. A performance chip simply replaces the stock tune by replacing the stock tune with a performance tune. A tuner uploads the tune through the OBD-II port straight into your truck's ecu. Tuners like the SCT XCal-II can raise shift points and rpms, raise the stock speed limiter, calibrate the speedo for tire size changes and gear ratio changes, and diagnose and clear DTC's. And you have a choice of uploading a tune for 87, 89, and 93 octane. Ask Mike over in the chips and tuning forum about it. He can give you more detailed info about it than I can.
