PVC valve
PVC valve
I replaced the PVC valve on my truck today. When trying to pull the elbow off, one of the hoses came off and fluid came out. What fluid is running through that tube? Didn't spill enough to really matter, but would like to make sure.
PCV valve shouldn't have fluid, generally. Its job is to remove blowby gases from the crankcase, so it shouldn't have fluid in it. Sometimes oil can get in there a little bit, but it shouldn't be more than a drop or two (literally, one or two drops- not much at all). If the valve was bad that might let stuff build up, I guess--- and I'm also thinking maybe condensation? Maybe someone who knows more about cold weather issues can speak about that (I don't have to worry about that here in AZ, it's usually too warm and/or dry to come up).
I lined in an Air/Water separator between the PCV valve and the front elbow (didn't know about the back elbow) and you would be suprised how much oil comes through after one day. A lot more than two drops. If you ever remove your throttle body you will be disgusted at how much oil is in the intake. My truck only has 56,000 and it was bad. The pics below are from my Cobra driven less than 30miles.
