Thanks to the smart people at Ford, we manual trannies are without tachs. The truck that could make use of 'em don' have them.

Anyways, I did something to kill a couple of birds with 1 stone. I bought the Scanguage. This will tell RPM's, air intake temp, water temp, MPG, MPH, your timing, load of the engine, and many others. A bonus is that it can read AND clear trouble codes (CEL's), Another nice feature is you can accurately track MPG from a previous trip and compare it to the current trip.

Quick install and can be swapped into another vehicle no problem. I did this to a buddies Chevy and he said he had 1 code....turns out he had 3! The instant I cleared them, his CEL went off. It also reported that his truck was in OPEN LOOP which meant his PCM wasn't using his 02 sensors to do what they should be doing.

All of this for $130.00 whilst a tach adapter (needed because we got coil packs) for $65.00 and then another $30.00+ for the tach.

Shipping was included in the Scanguage price. However, the Scanguage is probably the ugliest thing you will ever buy, so it needs painted one way or the other. Mounting is simple, it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. I installed mine on the driver side dash (obviously) almost back to window. This hides it from people sittin' on the left of me in traffic and the 'hump' above the instrument cluster kind of shields it from people in the pass lane who has bigger and/or meaner trucks

I painted mine to match the red interior dash and such on the outside and just took off the "Scanguage" sticker on the front to reveal the black underside. This works OK for me. I used a rust colored primer (lost spray can, sorry no #) and it matched pretty well with dash.

Also, the Scanguage reads in metric also so all of our Northern brethren can use on their vehicle also.

Hope this helps in your decision.

I havent done the install yet, but all thew info is on this site or linked to http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.c...achinstall.asp. You'll need to sign up on fordtruckworld.com to view that site. My advice for a tach is a Sunpro tach II, I have had one in my 63 ford falcon, then later put the same one on my 88 dodge omni.
