P0117 codes
P0117 codes
I've been having a problem for a while. This is about my 1997, F150, v6 4.2.
I had a remanufactured engine put in at 202,000 miles - bent rods. The "new" engine was great until recently. It now has about 50,000 miles on it.
I started having idle issues, when slowing, periodically it would try to stall. Also, sporadically, I would have trouble starting. Several times, I would start her up, drive to the gas station or the store, then she wouldn't start. Sometimes she wouldn't start right off. I'd wait a while and then boom, starts up.
After some tinkering, I figured out that my battery connection were corroding badly, cleaned them up, problem solve - then the terminal connection were loose so I replaced the connections and all was good for another while.
Now, a cpouple of weeks ago, same symptoms, not starting, wait, then start. When not starting, she would crank and crank, but wouldn't kick in.
So I've been reading on here. I've cleand the IAC valve, run Sea Foam in the tank and through the power brake boster hose into the intake and got the smoke, a little. No improvement.
I had the battery tested - checked out fine, 850 CCA, 12.9 volts, I think. Then I had the CEL codes read at AZ, it showed two codes, both P0117. So yesterday I replace the Coolant Temp Sensor (man what a pain). And while I was in there I pulled and cleaned the Throttle Body real good, butterfly and all. It seemed to start ok, nothing impressive, and now it is throwing the same code(s) again.
I'd really appreciate any ideas. The book at the AZ said that for the P0117 code to check the wires (sensor wires?) And possibly replace the sensor, or take it to a diagnostic garage.
I am trying to not have to take my truck to a mechanic, but may have to soon.
Could it be that I need to change my coolant - could it be a hose?
Any help - Thanks!
