Another 4.2L failure
Another 4.2L failure
I parked my 97 F-150 at the airport for seven days. It seemed to be running ok when I shut it off but when I got back and started it up, I got that super loud knocking that I have been reading soooo much about.
Is it better to rebuild the current engine or replace it? And either way is there a website that can walk me thru the finer details of what it involves to do this? Or should I bite the bullet and take it to a mechanic?

Bad Situation!!!
Well your in the same situation as alot of the members on the board. I think it expensive to get a mechanic to rebuild the engine that blew because of the labor hours involved and the uncertainty of the amount of damage caused. Seems like less headaches and time(=money) involved if you just get a rebuilt unit or a junked one, either one with a warranty. Just an opinion, all depends on how much time & money you're willing to invest. One thing is for sure, Ford when give you a bit of help even though it was their shotty craftsmanship and unfair and deceptive business practices that got you into this position to begin with. Hope this helps. Take Care JR
