Code P0402 EGR Valve

I have a 2001 F150 with a V6 engine, 34,000 miles. I recently had my regular shop do a fuel injection service and throttle body cleaning. Shortly thereafter the check engine light came on. The code is P0402. I cleared the code, but it came back. There is also some knocking when doing a slight acceleration at cruising speed.

Is this a coincidence or did the shop foul up my EGR? Is it a warranty item? I hate to take it to the local dealer because they need it all day.

Thanks

Howdy,

First check your electrical plug for a tight/good connection ( thats what was wrong w/ mine). Clear your codes and drive it a little ways. If thats not it check your vacuum connections, Or check 'em both at the same time. I bet one of them is lose! Clear you codes and drive it a little ways. If the code come back (check engine light comes on) then take it to Ford. Good luck!!

Paul

Davehtx,

Did you ever fix your problem with the knocking that happened at a slight acceleration at cruising speed? I have the exact same problem. My engine pings between 1500-2000 RPM under slight acceleration. If I really put my foot down it does not ping at all under any load, but it pings when I go easy on it. It drives me crazy! Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. My truck is a '01 F-150 with a 4.2L automatic with 40,000 miles.

code po402

I've had the same exact problem with my v6 2001, 33,000 miles. egr flow excessive.. so I put a new egr valve.... check engine light still on... mechanic told me dpfe sensor is probably burned out...said that's the first thing that goes... have you been able to fix your problem yet? and also my truck makes that pinging sound to at low rpms 1st or 2nd gear. let me know...

its the dpfe sensor causing the P0402 code i cant believe how many dealers are still replacing egrs to fix that code. the sensors get stuck at .14 volts when at idle they should be around 1 volt and go up depending on load.

as for the ping there is a chance its related because the engine would not be using the egr to lower combustion temp with the excessive reading i would get the dpfe fixed first.

if its out of warrenty they are real easy sensors to replane takes like 10 minutes.
