fuel mileage
Well everyone gave me a hard time for buying a truck with a V-6, I know I lose quite a bit in power but the fuel mileage sure makes up for it, I have an 80 liter tank and I get 720 kms out of the tank or for the americans on the site I have a 21 gallon tank and I get 450 miles which translates to 21 miles to the gallon or 11 liters per hundred kms. It is more than I was expecting.

I've got a 02 XL v6 and I'm lucky to pull 16mpg. I want to know how the heck he's getting 21mpg! Originally I was getting 18-20 but now that I have 36k miles it dropped down to 14-16. I do a lot of highway driving being I live in the country and the closest town is 20 miles away. Basically I have the same truck as mbuechler. It's a automatic as well.

Have you checked the codes? You could have an O2 sensor out - which would cause you to run 'rich' all the time. You may also have a clogged EGR valve, or some other easily fixed problem to restore your mileage.
My truck is a 99 XLT S/C 4.2l auto w/3.31 open. I get about 17 - 17.5 mpg travelling 500 highway miles each week. Of course, 'highway' driving doesn't always mean open road conditions in the greater Boston area! The only mod I've made to the engine is a K&N filter, which may have bosted performance, but not noticably.
When I towed my tent trailer this past summer, I got 16.7 mpg at 68 mph (using cruise control). Pedalling it on the way home at 70-75, I got 13.5 mpg! Never follow your buddy when he doesn't use his cruise control!!
I have seen 19mpg at 60mph with no traffic - but that's rare!
My 97 4.2w/ auto was getting 19MPG constantly until a couple weeks ago when the check engine light came on

The 25 gallon tank (not 20-21) is 94.75 liters (lets just say 95) So the real result is 7.58 Km per L, which is just under 18 (17.9)mpg. Which is about right.
Ain't math cool?
