01XLT,Thats cool that you are taking on tasks yourself.Thats why they have this forum, for us to help each other. You will be surprised at how much money you will save doing things yourself along with the satisfaction you did it yourself.I too like to have the dealer do certain things(replaced my lower intake gaskets ) I use to build alot of motors and race a little, but those days are over.If I can afford to let someone else do my major mechanical work then I dont mind paying for it.Ive had enuff of it.I do my periodiac maint. but thats it.Anything you need help with dont be scared to ask me or email me.

The fuel filter...

Anyone here ever done the fuel filter?
Seems to be a bit of a pain to get the lines off the nipples.

I'll look in old posts, but if anyone reading this knows let me know.

BlueOvalFitter:

I enjoyed doing the transmission and rear-end. I elected to have the coolant and power steering flush done by the dealer. The coolant because I don't know where I would take the old coolant for disposal and the power steering fluid because I figured it would be a mess and didn't want to screw it up and burn the power steering pump up.

The more I think about the brakes the more I am thinking about having a professional do it. Main reason is safety. I would hate to screw something up with that and not find out until "to late".

This site is awesome, so many people with alot of knowledge.

Wow Gator, its a small world. We did a chiller change out and did 3stories of steam piping along with new air handlers and fan coils back in 1994 at Moffit. In fact,my company has a contract with USF for all the mechanical maintenance. We also repiped the USF Sundome in 1992.

Cool Cool

Liking this forum more and more-

Good information, gearheads, AND metalworkers.

Aint so bad here at all.

So with all I've done with the 4.2 so far, it's lively as a terrier.
Gonna look at all these threads on ATF in that five speed now.
My sense is to run some kind of synthetic. I bet the stuff in there's been in there for 110,000 miles too.
Gonna look at the diff as well.

Haven't you guys heard of Water Wetter?
I'm suprised no one here on the site is talking about it. Lowers the surface tension of water, lets the motor run cooler and minimizes hot spots in the cooling jacket. Cheap and good for the motor.

Metal,I use to use it in my 77 Z-28,with a stroker 383 I built, with a tad over 410hp.I used it along with distilled water only and it does make a difference.Lowered my temperature about 10 degrees.

Lower temp and...

Your motor lasts longer.
More of an even temperature along the cooling jacket's surface is good for things in there.

Distilled water is also great for the cooling system. Radiators last longer, fewer deposits on the water jacket...

Gotta flush that cooling system today too.
One fluid at a time here.

Trust me "withdrawl symptoms" can be a BIG problem...
