Jerry,

Your 1998 has the holes cut into the bumper for the fog lights. You will have to install a 4x4 bumper. If you are thinking of fitting a 1999 and newer bumper on your truck you will have a gap directly under the grill as the new models have a grill that is lower in that area. The 1999 valance will not fit a 1998.

must have different front end

My truck is the STX model and it does not have the holes for the fog lights. Is there an after market valance that will fit my truck? Ireally want the fog lights it makes the truck look meaner.
Thanks Jerry

Jerry,

Sorry about the confusion. 1997-98 4x2 models do not have fog lights and have a large front bumper. The 1997-98 4x4 have a similar large bumper but with cutouts in the metal that are covered with a plastic insert when they are delivered without fog lights.

Here is a pic of a 97-8 4x2

Here is a 97-8 4x4

You would have to purchase a new 4x4 bumper to be able to install fog lights.

In 1999 the metal part of the bumper was shrunk and the fog lights were placed in the valance.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Regards

Jerry,

Here is a 99 4x2

Here is a 99 4x4

If you try to install a 99 bumper and valamce onto a 1997-8 you will have a gap between the grill and the bumper where the bumper curves under grill between the headlights.

How hard is it to install

I have a buddy who owns a junk yard so Im sure I can get the 98 4x4 valence pretty cheap. But what all needs to be done to swap them out, and how hard is it.
Thanks Jerry Jaudon

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry,

If you have 1998 truck the bumper has to be changed. 1997-98 the fogs are in the bumper, the metal part. In 1999 Ford changed the design and the fogs are now in the plastic part. Parts from a 97-98 can not be interchanged with parts from a 1999.

Looks good. They should have made all the 97-98s with that bumper. Now come clean, did your bumper realy need to be replaced????? If it did i would hate do have been in what ever you hit.

In order for you do it to your truck, you will most likely have to buy a new bumper.

Also, I started or tried to start installing the fog lights, and umm its quite the pain in the ***.

Any one have any idea where the fog light wires that are put on from ford where they connect inside the truck?

I believe the 97-98 4x4 had the wires in place but the 4x2 did not. You have to pull the light swiitch and check the harness. There should be an extra connector. Let me know if you find it.

Chris,

Disconnect the battery. Turn the headlight switch to the headlight on position. Pull the **** out. You will see a little square hole in the pottom of the ****. this holes is to allow you to push in the clip that holds the **** on. Use a paper clip or such and push in to release the tab. remove the **** and rotate it 180° and re-install it. Turn the **** counterclockwise to the off position. Then turn the **** clockwise while pulling on it and the switch will pop out.

This procedure applies to 97-98 trucks.

I have a 97 4x2 , i would also like to have the bumper with the fog lights. All of the 97/98 4x2's that i have looked at DID NOT have the wiring harness for the fog lights. I have only found them on the 4x4 models.
