Engine Swap
Engine Swap
I bought my 98 F150 here a few months ago and I would like to mod it. I want to start under the hood so its not all show and no go. What I was woundering is if anyone could direct me to a link or give me info on a 5.4 Lightning swap. Thanks in advance.

Why not just get an L? Buy the time you find and pay for a shipped Lightning crate motor, find and buy a matching ECU, wiring, transmission, exhaust, and every other component to match what is needed for a blown 5.4, you would have already spent about the same amount as the price of an L. Don't forget, just throwing all that power into a stock regular F-150 isn't going to change it into a 13.5 sec. Lightning. There are many other components that have to be considored with an upgrade that large. Buy the time your finished buying, installing, and smothing everything out to work right you will have spent at least the price of an L and probaly well over. Also since your not installing everything yourself (I figure your not or you wouldn't be asking this), the price for installation would be ridiculous. It would be cheaper to buy a Lightning. But I'm sure it has been done. The best way of going about this is to find a wrecked L and swap everything from it. Still the price for installation will be threw the roof. Hope you know some gear head friends. Good Luck!
Why not buy a L? Well for the simple fact that then I would have a Lightning instead of a truck of my own creation. I'm not as stupid as the post may have made me sound. Mainly I was wondering had anyone esle done this and if it would drop in and bolt up to the factory mounts. As far as the work goes I can and will do it all myself. I imagine that I could buy a totaled out Lightning, swap the drivetrain, blow it, and whatever esle I might do and come out far less then buying a new truck.
buy yourself a 5.4 straight from Ford and add on a supercharger. ive heard this combo would be a lot faster than the "held back" Lightning engines. im sure that L engine could kick 420+ hp if Ford didnt "tune it down". im in the process of doing this and i have found that the 5.4 cost me about 3,000 and the supercharger another 2,500. ive only spent in total about 24,000 max including price of a regular cab 2001 f150 on my "custom lightning"! way less than the 32,000 price tag! and i dont race it i just like it for its aggresive style and look! good luck it can be done and when your finished with it im sure itll run and look great!
Then why do you call yourself SVTErick?
Qteasy: Go into the Lightning forum. They will help you with what ever you need to know, and probaly repeat most of what I told you. With all the parts the swap should go smoothly, the factory mounts and just about everything else should be similar. Don't forget while they call it a Lightning, everything except the SVT parts is just like a standard XLT F-150.

hey JnBmx, how about going over to the Lightning forum and posting that! I'm sure they will love it hehe. Or if you would like I could quote it and take it over there myself.
Also, this is all talk. Do it first, show us some dyno sheets, and prove it to us! Then we will give you some praise.
Untill then this is all talk, you can't prove you'll come up with those #'s, unless it's been done before and you can prove it. Good luck guys!
