Replacing 4.2 engine
I need help. I am replacing the 4.2 engine in my 97 F150, I threw out a rod and when I contact engine rebuilders to get a rebuilt engine, they ask me if my engine, inside the oil pan has 6 or eight nuts holding some kind of plate. Unfortunately without almost pulling the engine, i cannot remove the oil pan, any suggestions as to what they are talking about. My truck is a 97 F150 two wheel drive, standard 5 speed shift.
thanks for any help.
thanks for any help.
Ask them if they are sure they are talking about the 4.2V6 The 4.6L V8 has 2 different crank shaft patterns, one which takes a 6 bolt flywheel/flex plate, the other which takes 8 bolt flywheel/flex plate.
Maybe they are just mistaken on what you both are talking about, or he is confused which engine has the different patterns.

Thanks for getting back to me BoostedOne, I called back and they told me that there are some studs that fit a plate underneith the pan, but they told not to worry ether one fits. Do you know the new torqe values for the intake bolts? Reading the posts here, indicate that Ford changed them from the original.
thanks
thanks
hey they are talking about a stock windage tray, main stud girdle. it goes on the main cap studs and tightens up the main caps as well as providing some windage effect. you vin number should contain what engine it is, i think there is a romeo plant engine and a windsor plant engine.
