Piston Ring.. HELP!
Piston Ring.. HELP!
Can someone help me out here?
I have my new rings from Ford here, and I am having trouble with the top ring. It has directions for each ring type, although I suspect the packing is somewhat generic. Anyhow, on the top ring it says to put the side with "T", "O" "TOP" or a dot on the top. If there is no marking it says to intall the ring as shown in figure 1. Figure one shows them installing a ring that has a beveled ID with the bevel on the top.
Problem is, the ring has NO marking. It also has no bevel that I can see. it appears that the ID has the corners rounded, but that is on both sides from what I can tell.
On the middle ring, it has "TOP" in big letters on it, plus I can plainly see the bevel.
Has anyone ever seen a top ring that it didnt matter which way it goes on? Anyone have experiance with this??
thanks.

I took one of the rings in question to the machine shop with me this morning. The guy said it is symetrical. He said that it is not very common, but is becoming that way. He said that ring manufacturers are starting to produce the top rings where it doesnt matter how you put it on.
Interesting eh?
