Prices - MSRP, Invoice, and X-Plan, Oh my!

Newbie here, been lurking and learning for awhile.

I'm looking for some info from anyone who's got experience with X-Plan. I'm trying to figure out how X-Plan relates to Invoice price and if I should expect to have much luck getting a dealer to go lower than X-Plan. I've looked at several '06 trucks from the X-Plan dealer inventory site and it lists all three prices, MSRP, Inv, and X-Plan. The X-Plan prices are obviously lower than MSRP but are also below Inv, which kind of surprised me. Granted the difference is only in the $70 range. Would it be unheard of to get much more below Inv price or are there different Invoice prices that only the dealer is privy to? I think I've seen TV ads late in the year from dealers offering f150's at $500 below invoice, are they making up a new "Invoice" price and massaging it upwards for these specials?

Here's a few examples of prices I've pulled.
'06 f150 4x4 Lariat Screw: MSRP 42,580, Inv 38,001, X-Plan 37,924
'06 f150 4x4 Lariat Screw: MSRP 41,815, Inv 37,364, X-Plan 37,364
'06 f150 4x4 Lariat Screw: MSRP 42,725, Inv 38,119, X-Plan 38,041

Thanks in advance.

XPlan is 4% above dead cost. Invoice is dead cost, plus holdback, plus floor plan, plus advertising, or a bit more than 4% over dead cost.

Holdback is 3% of full MSRP before any package discounts less destination and delivery.

Sounds like there's definitely some room for movement on price based on that information. Thanks a lot for the input.

Don't know where you come up with those numbers. X-plan used to be 4% over A-plan, however that has changed sometime in the last year. This is direct from the Ford AXZPlan web site:

X-Plan

Pre-determined price based on dealer invoice or A-Plan price depending on brand.
The X-Plan price is noted on the dealer invoice (except for
Land Rover and Jaguar)

Ford/Mercury
Invoice minus 0.4% of Invoice + $75 Administration Fee

Lincoln
Invoice plus 0.6% premium + $75 Administration Fee

Volvo
A-Plan + 2% of A-Plan

Land Rover
Invoice plus 4% of Invoice (excluding Regional Advertising Group fee and destination & delivery fee).

Jaguar
Invoice plus 4% of Invoice (excluding Advertising Association Fee and destination & delivery fee).

For specific vehicle plan pricing, visit the Vehicles & Pricing page. Pricing of in-stock dealership inventory is available for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealerships. Detail pricing sheets are available for Volvo, Mazda, Jaguar and Land Rover.
