But putting the more slipperier Mercon V to an older tranny may cause slippage. Although my tranny has been running normal so far, I am draining it completely so as not to take any chances. Ford Philippines only gives us 2 years warranty and mine just ran out a few weeks ago! What is a good synthetic Mercon V? Thanks again...
Different types of transmission fluid but the same types of transmission solenoids.

Yes, and what a coincidence, same age as my 2001 ! Sorta stands to reason that some posts of the vast history of our tenth gens, would be as old. 😁

Mercon V is a bit convoluted in history too, and it's v difficult to learn... sorta like DOT 5.0 synth brake fluid is INcomptible but 5.1 IS compatible. O'Reillys hears from Ford to use AT. But my money is on a Real Pro, Darrin of BCAtransmissions. He warns against AT, in tenth gens at least, (maybe all older gens...?) as it is thinner. He says longevity will suffer. So, you listen to a corporation or to a Master.

What exactly are you referring to when you say "AT"?

Automotive Transmission Fluid... in common and general terms, versus a specific fluid such as old MerconV or the newer more compatible MerconV. I know very little of the minutiae. I'll do what Darrin says.

"Universal" fluid should be fine as long as it meets Mercon V specs. Note that newer transmissions spec Mercon LV (6R80) or Mercon ULV (10R80).

Apparently so... but I thought we were discussing 10th gen, which prefers Mercon. My apologies.
