Question Checking a/t fluid

Hi

How warm/hot does a/t fluid need to be for accurate check?

I checked level after 10mi. and fluid way above normal area on dip stick. Fluid up stick about 4"?...its heavier in cross hatched area...somewhat lighter past that. Its up into "how to check info" on stick. Made 10min. stop...drove back home..10mi...same thing.

Im not overfilled..i do know that for sure. Ive gotten accurate cks. before...but maybe engine/tranny was hotter? Or is something else going on im not aware of?

My other thread (got some info) tcil flashing/schip...i pulled chip (to clear and reset pcm before taking to shop)...apparently codes erased..no tcil (o/d light) flashing now..even after 30mi...a/t seems to be shifting ok...meaning...it goes thru gears...even o/d on/off works ok. Freeway...downshift ok. Same with/without schip.

Schip been in along time. Kinda forgot how a/t shifted stock. Noticed the 1-2 stock shift abit hard...but that maybe normal?

TIA for any advise/opinions. OT

btw...talked with svc. shop.."short version"....tcil light has to be flashing to get a/t data. Its somewhat aggravating. A real crap shoot now!

Service shop is wrong. TCIL does not need to flash to get transmission codes. Codes are stored for a long time after the light stops flashing. A more competent shop could get the codes.

Hi Mark If you see this....

Im trying to get straight on this...i do not want to pay for 2 scans unless its absolutely necessary. Suppose to go Tue am. for scan.

When i disconnected battery etc...tcil quite flashing. I thought that erased a/t trb. codes? I would have to wait for the 'tcil' to start flashing again.

Are you saying that is not the case. The a/t data..trb.codes or what ever their called are still there...even after battery disconnect/pcm reset to OEM program.. and no "tcil" flashing?

I do appreciate info.

Tks....OT

Disconnecting the battery WILL clear the codes. You didn't mention the battery in your last post.

The light will flash when the problem is present. If it is an intermittent problem the code will be in memory even if the light stops flashing because the problem is not there, as long as you don't disconnect the battery. The code will stay in memory for about a month after the last time the light flashed, as long as the battery is not disconnected.
