Post Speedometer Cable

I was looking at my trans and could not find the Speedometer cable! Does a 98 have the cable or is it electronic? If it does have a cable, where is it?

Thanks

It is electronic - it is called a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and on your truck it will be on the top of the transfer case tailshaft. It has a driven gear just like the old cable types but generates an electrical (AC) signal for the computer.
