Angry transmission

I had a trans shudder that was really bad.
The Ford dealer said it was my plugs at 40K Wrong! They serviced my trans that will fix it. Wrong again! You need you torque converter fluid changed MUCH better but not gone completely.
Now it only shudders between 45-60mph under some force of a hill or heavy acceleration.
Should the torque converter be changed NOW?
Another Ford dealer said it is my Flowmaster exhaust. I think they are very wrong. A 2nd opinion I was given was live with it. WRONG again. Anyone have help for me? I am very frustrated. The only other modifacatio to the truck is a K&N filter charger.

Eliminate the exhaust by wrapping a bungie cord around a long section of tailpipe yanking it to one side (thereby changing the natural frequency of the long length of pipe) and seeing if it changes the speed or intensity with which you feel shake.

Be sure to allow for heat on the bungie, or you might sling-shot the poor putz on the motorcycle next to you when it shoots off.

I had the same exact thing on my 2001 Screw -- 5.4l, 4r70 tranny. It started when brand new. Dealer said they could not reproduce, etc. Tranny completely quit at 5,000 miles.

I posted yesterday about my 2000 5.4 with the 1-2 shift shudder. I had my friend drive it(ex transmission mechanic). He noticed the shudder is only on light throttle shifts(less than 2000 rpm's).He states that the shudder is really the trany slipping and is accelerating the wear. His diagnoses.. Look for a misajusted throttle positioning senser or damaged or broken sealing rings " " piston or drum " " 1-2 accumulator or springs. Misaligned or damaged valve body gaskets " " pump gasket or possibly a bad solinoid.Just what I wanted to here right?.

Thanks for all the replies. I didi get it fixed finally. It turned out to be 3 loose bolts on the trnsfer case. Ford is looking into rfunding me some cash that I spent to get there mechanics to fix. I spent over 600 dollars to fix loose bolts.

Question

Toolmaker have you resolved your 1-2 shudder?
This sounds like exactly what my E4OD is doing. Has done this since I had the dealer flush two weeks ago. I have been posponing the trip to the dealer because I doubt they will be able to reproduce the noise/shudder, I can rarely get it to act up "on command" and I fear the dealer may treat this problem with a can of "Tranny Up" and send me on my way to warranty expiration. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My problem is long gone. The loose bolts were tightened and nothing else was the cause. If you are un able to check it, take it to a good tranny shop that deals in upgrades and repairs. I think you may be able to check for loose bolts between the transfer case and trans.
My truck is running great!!! I am back to being very happy.

I hope my trans holds up as most of my take offs are at WOT and times when I can't go WOT because all the dumb@asses in front of me take forever to get going the trans act wierd sometimes so is this a sign of trouble coming for my trans.

My Wife has a 97 T-Bird, 4.6L
Her trans has been shuttering SO BAD for the last few months. I've been telling her to Baby it until we can trade the car in.
She came home last Friday and said, Now it is shuttering thru all gears. SOMETHING I DIDN'T NEED TO HEAR! So I took it to Ford Sat morning and played STUPID. Said I have this slight shuttering at lockup and would a flush take care of it. The Tech said he thought it might, so $100.00 later it runs like a new car. It was a BG system flush & fill. Best $100.00 I've spent in a long time.
Piece of Crap T-Bird is still going to be owned by someone else real soon. I will now sell it retail, instead of taking the pipe on a trade-in.
