Post flushing auto trans

yeah, I know that this is a ford message board, but I would like to know the steps to take to flush (completely, so as to remove all the old fluid, including convertor) my wife's 96 Cutlass. It has 72k on it, and I had the fluid and filter changed at Jiffy lube last 2 christmas ago when it had 51k on it (they didn't do their flus job, just a fluid and filter change), but I would now like to 'flush' the entire system and add good ole mobil one, and add a new filter. I would like to do it myself, but have never done it.
Any advice, info is appreciated,
Thanks everyone.

As far as I know the only way to flush a trans is with a flush machine. Costs too much for personal use only. The service at my shop is around $75. The machine is loaded with the proper amount of fluid of your choice and hooked into the cooler line so it pushes out and replaces all old fluid.

what about the filter in this kind of process.
do you change the filter before you pump all the old stuff through it??
That wouldn't seem right, however if you didn't change it before, you would have to drop the pan after you already had it full of new fluid.

The filter is just a metal screen, and doesn't have much filtering capabilities. It is just there to keep large chunks of crap from getting into the integral parts of the tranny.

My Wife has a 97 T-Bird, 4.6L
Her trans has been shuttering SO BAD for the last few months. I've been telling her to Baby it until we can trade the car in.
She came home last Friday and said, Now it is shuttering thru all gears. SOMETHING I DIDN'T NEED TO HEAR! So I took it to Ford Sat morning and played STUPID. Said I have this slight shuttering at lockup and would a flush take care of it. The Tech said he thought it might, so $100.00 later it runs like a new car. It was a BG system flush & fill. Best $100.00 I've spent in a long time.
Piece of Crap T-Bird is still going to be owned by someone else real soon. I will now sell it retail, instead of taking the pipe on a trade-in.
