Transmission oil change

Question

I was wondering if there is a certain brand of filter for transmission that is best? The shop I use on carries Purolator, would that be adaquate and how often do you change transmission fluid?
Will watch for replies..

1997 F-150 4x4- 4.6L w/5sp manual trans.
K&N air and oil filter Mobil 1 5w-30
15.5 to 17 mpg

N.Narvais- The manual trans has a filter???

4-wheel disc/ABS, Chestnut/Parchment 40/60,
Ford bedliner w/Paintsaver & gas/wheel/spare locks,
K&N F.I.P.K. w/Outwears pre-filter, Superchip,
Dynomax ultra-flow welded 3" cat-back w/ 3" Y-pipe,
Hellwig front & rear anti-sway bars, Rancho RS 9000s,
Mobil 1, K&N oil filter.

No, the manual transmission does not have a filter.

Thanks for the info. The shop I went to said that I had to pick one before they could get started. I had not seen one in the Hayes manual I had read so I did not know.
I am glad this site is here so newbies (those who do not know anything) can get correct and accurate info.
You think the Shop would have given me my "old" filter to show how dirty it was??

Just as info:
Purolator is the same as motorcraft. They manufacture all the filters for Ford. I know this because the trucking company I drive for ships motorcraft filters to the warehouse that supplies local dealerships with parts, and the shipper on all oil, air, and other filters is Purolator.
