I have a 1996 F150 and have a question. My transmission has developed a whine sound in park and neutral. YOu also hear it a low rpms while pulling out. The transmission shifts perfectly fine. The whine sounds almost like power steering pump but it is not. Transmission is a E40D and I have been told by some it is a pump in the transmission. Any reply to this would be of great help.

 

I have a 97 F150 and I am having the same sound, however, my transmission does not shift properly. I am tired of arguing with Ford so I will be taking it to a local Tranny shop to have them check it out when I get time. I'll post what I find out. Meanwhile, if anyone has ideas, please post. Thanks
