Question What could this be???

A hard downshift from OD into 2nd. Shutters after the OD-2nd shift a little too. Do not get this hard downshift (or shutter) with the OD off. Shifts OK from OD to 3rd.

Happens around 40 - 50 mph.

Ok, the truck went in last week. Dealer replaced the shift solenoid assembly and reprogrammed the PCM in accordance with a Ford TSB. Did not fix the hard downshift from 4th into 3rd.
Back in today. Rode with shop foreman and their tranny tech that did the work before. Today they are replacing the accumualtor - not sure if they are replacing all or just the 3 to 4 Accum. Will keep ya posted.

The accumulator assembly is one for all gears, they'll replace it all, not rebuild the accumulator. It's a valve body thing, four holes, four valves three springs....a few other misc parts.

Thanks Factory_Tech! It's nice to find that out. A phone call to the dealer yesterday evening (they still got the truck)revealed that it is not the accumulator assembly but ??something else?? that "feeds" the accumulator. I'll have to wait and see. Any ideas?

Question

Got the truck back. Hard downshift from 4th to 3rd still there. Problem not fixed.

What they did. The dealer replaced the accumulator assembly - one piece like FACTORY_TECH indentified. New fluid too. Said drive it for a couple of days and see how it feels, it it's still not ok, talk to the Ford Rep & have him drive it. Hmmmm?
Tranny tech say FQR Tranny replacements are FQRs not new, just rebuilt. Are these any good? I'll start a new topic.
