Whats wrong?? Tranny or rear-end??

I've got an 01 F150 4x4 and tonight while driving the rear-end shuddered and tremored. It wasn't constant, but occured a good bit. It would do it while accelerating and just sitting still with the brake on. The RPMs would also flucuate during the shuddering while stopped. Is it my Tranny or rear-end? Anything ya'll can tell me will be extremely helpful.

Tom, I doubt that it's your rear end if it happens while you're at a standstill. The symptoms you describe sound like trans shudder but I have yet to hear of anyone who has experienced the tranny shudder while at a standstill too. I'm sure others will give their input shortly but get it checked out regardless.

If you're still under warranty make sure to document all your interactions with the dealer in case he cant solve the problem before the warranty expires.

Good luck & welcome aboard.

Are you sure its not a bad missfire. I know when my truck was missfiring pretty bad it kinda felt like the transmission was slipping and wouldnt shift.

Check the Drivetrain-Engines Forum

There have been a whole bunch of issues with engine "misses" or misfires - usually rectified by a plug/plug wire change, but sometimes leading back to the coil paks.

If it's happening when the truck is stopped I doubt it's the rearend. If it were tranny related you would see a really deep drop in RPMs.
