Question 5-speed stick moves when I give it gas?

2001 4x4 5-speed 4.6L. When I give it gas or let off, the stick, and 4x4 engagement stick move together about an inch or more. When I got the truck new, it was missing some tranny cross-bar member bolts, which were replaced. Is something still wrong or is this normal? Moves quite a bit. Also, how solid are these 5-speeds? It is really jerky and grinds about twice a day from 2 - 3 shifts. Should I worry about having to have something fixed sometime soon or should it continue on like this for 100,000 mi.? When I got it, right off the lot it wouldn't shift very well at all. I removed the clutch resiviore under the hood and fluid **** EVERYWHERE!!! It had been majorly overfilled. Should I have the system bled or something? Thanks!!!
