Unhappy Slippp...ing Again/what's wrong?

My trans has been slipping again. Usually happens when the engine is cold. I have to go up a hill when I first leave my current apt. I have to stop at the top of this hill before turning out onto the main road. When I leave from this stop, while turning,it starts off fine. But halfway through turning, the trans slips and then goes back into gear. This also happens when I let off the gas, then reapply, after the truck is warmed up.
I had the fluid flushed, and changed with
Mercon V. It seemed to help for awhile, but now it's started again. Have I hurt the trans, somehow. Both times I've had the fluid changed before the scheduled time,so why could this be happening? I am going to try the slip yoke lube soon, but this feels like the trans. I also have a diff. fluid change scheduled for Fri.,it was alittle dirty when checked the other day. I'm getting worried
that the trans is going bad at 48,000 miles. Let me know of any tricks to possibly fix this,,,,,,98

Question

Same thing here. Need help! My problem goes like this:

Seems like when the trans shutters out of the hole and from 2-3 and 3-2. Also, if I leave off the gas and coast at 45-50mph and then hit the gas (not enough to downshift into 2nd)it bangs into gear rather hard then shutters. What could this be? I too am baffeled. No codes yet. Had the Bilestien trans flush at 24K now have 32K. Tow a 3500lb boat in the summer. 99 4X4 F250LD SC with 5.4, 3:73, auto.

Any thoughts? Solenoid(s)? Torque Converter? Slip yolk thing? programming?

Unhappy

No shudder here, but this slipping has me worried, bigtime! BTW,on the warmed up
slip, It acts like it's in gear, but not completely. Kind of like something is holding it back, then it clunks into to gear.
I am noticing it has something to do with
the OD button, acts wierder when it's not turned off,or when I forget to turn it off,,,98

Screamer,

That sounds like you could have shift solenoid problems. Unfortunately, a lot of Ford dealership service departments aren't very good at diagnosing shift solenoid failures/problems.

If it feels like it's slipping into neutral for second and then going into gear, it could very well be the shift solenoids. Luckily, they're pretty cheap, and easy to replace, the attach to the valvebody.

Good luck!

Question

I guess that's it,then. How many are there, and how much do they average?
I think it'll be okay, since your not actually
selling me the parts in question,eh,,,,
I hope it doesn't hurt anything, since I might not be able to do it til after this weekend. Life on the road pays well, but doesn't leave you much time to get anything done: (

Also sounds like my problem. Let off the gas at 45-55 or so, let it slow down a little, and then gently punch it again and it hesitates like it is out of gear. You can fill it slip back in.

How much, how many, can I swith them out, etc.? Thanks in advance!

Exclamation

Well the Ford dealer here Ft. Lauderdale seems to think there is only one on the 4R70W? they weren't sure. They quoted
me a price of $31 and change,if it's one, that is reasonable. But if it takes 3 or 4 of them,it could get expensive. My Chilton manual only has changing the fluid,in the trans section. Who are the people who write them, and why don't they have any other info for the trans?,,,,,98

If you want to see good instructions on the 4r70w transmission (that's what most f150 have), go to the Thunderbird site:
http://www.tccoa.com

Rebuild, repair, improvements.

You only need one.

There are lots of TSB's out there on this tranny, I've seen your problem in one of them, but can't find it.

Hey Thanks Wichita Greg,
This was a major help to me and conway
both. Now,if this solves our trouble,It would be too cool. Mine was fine one day, then the next it was jumping out of gear on hills, and slipping the next.,,,,,98

Yeah, thanks.

98,
If you get any where let me know. I will post anything I find out too. This is the only thing that has disappointed me so far about this truck.
